Origami Creations - Birds of the same feathers

To continue my last post on Birds, here are some more folds that I made during the holidays.  They are simple birds folds but I get to learn some techniques in their design which I can use for my own.

Hummingbird by the famous british origamist Edwin Corrie is an enjoyable fold. You can read more about him here.

Simple yet sublime
It's design is simple but the proportions are quite accurate.

Cool swallow in a pink nest
Next is the swallow by my japanese origamist FB friend Ashimura Shunichi.  I did a small variation on its tail to make it appear longer.

Flying Cardinal
Last one is the Cardinal by Seth Friedman.  Another intricate fold but awesome dual color design.

Again, he has freely shared a detailed tutorial for this model which I you can find below:

Hope you've enjoyed it!

Origami Creations - Impressive Little Birds

So many attractive bird origami models which I have been dying to fold in the past few months.  Finally, the christmas holidays' gave me a chance to do so.

First off, this is the Little Bird by the famous japanese origamist Hideo Komatsu.  I didn't quite make a clean fold here so surely I will try this again.

Lovely cute birdie
It's awesome 3D design and cool claws is delightful!

The next one is simple yet smartly designed by Seth Friedman.  This one is also called "Little Bird".

Cool color change bird
It's proportions and color change design is phenomenal.  He has been making a lot of detailed videos lately sharing his talents to the world.  Here is the tutorial for the little bird.

Enjoy!

Origami Creations - Cool Gangster Fold

For a change, I decided to do a human fold.

After checking around the web, I came upon "Corto Maltese" by Kaze.  I couldn't quite get the hair for this model so I decided to convert it into a beret hat and make him more gangsta cool.

Here is my variation of the model.

He's so hot ... hot dxxxb
What do you think?

Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

Origami Creations - Cool Bread Loaf Fold

I have participated in the IV International Origami Internet Olympiad (IOIO 2014) last October 15.  This is my first time to join this tough competition for purely reasons of challenging myself.

Though I did poorly (completing 7 out of 12 task), I was impressed by one of the task.  It's origami and tessellation technique combined ...

Smart and well thought of model
It's the cool bread loaf by Dzmitry Lysiuk.  With a yellowish paper, my fold could be convincing enough.

What do you think?

Enjoy your week!

Winter Origami Exchange Gifts 2014

My first time to join this annual cool event which is in its Third year.  It is one of the great ways to know my peers in the origami world and would surely join again next year.  For more details, check it here.

Due to the Christmas holiday rush, I received my package in Hong Kong on the 31st of December through a delivery note from the post office.  I went to pick it up on the first work day - January 2nd, and got my gift from Mr. Ken Forman from Arkansas, USA.

Colorful package with crisp folded Yoshizawa Bird

A more closer look
It is a wonderfully folded Yoshizawa bird and a lovely note from Ken ... quite an appropriate gift of Peace for my troubled Hong Kong.

For my part, I mailed a package to Kathy Stevick from Pennsylvania, USA.

Snowflake flower, Sheep and Bilingual Ori-book
I am glad she liked her gift too.  I placed them in a Santa bag and includes:

1.  folded pieces of my designs - Baby Mammoth, Mr & Mrs Santa, Heart over Heart, Muttley Dog and a new Sheep design with the ori-diagram;

2.  As she teaches origami, I included a handy bilingual All seasons origami book of simple yet timeless models;

3.  A favorite tessellation (cube) by Ralf Konrad;

4.  A traditional snowflake and a snowflake flower by David Martinez.

It was a wonderful experience and I am surely looking forward to WOE 2015.

Digging up my pile of folded works, I realized that I still have a lot of doggie folds which I haven't wrote about ...

Cute Chihuahua
This is the cool chihuahua by the famous japanese origamist Fuchimoto Muneji.  I found some video tutorials for this model here.

Adorable
Beagle, another adorable model by the famous japanese origamist Jun Maekawa.  You can find the diagram for this piece in the 20th Tanteidan Convention Book.

A favourite color change cutie
This puppy by the HK origamist Jacky Chan is such a cutie!  You can find its diagram in the HK Origami Newsletter No. 26.

Coolest
Last but not the least is Seth Friedmann's sheepdog.  It is so fortunate that he has shared a video tutorial for this piece.  Though a little bit difficult, the results is well worth it.

Origami Creations - Christmas Stars and Snowflakes II

Happy New Year!

So fortunate to receive a photodiagram of a simple snowflake modular by Hans-Werner Guth in FB.   He is a cool origamist who makes a lot of geometric models.

Look at his FB link here.

Adorable

This model uses 6 units only and connecting them is really easy.

There is so much wealth of information in his flickr account ... I will surely drop by and try his awesome creations soon.
