Origami Creations - Another Komatsu Favorite Fold

I've seen an eye-opening video on "Talking to Dolphins".  It is a must see for those ocean and sea loving beings like me.

They are really such a fun, loving, intelligent and adorable sea creatures and it is very well captured by the ori-model of the japanese master origamist Hideo Komatsu.

Playful and charming
You can find the diagram of this model in the Tanteidan Magazine No. 155.

Origami Creations - Who Prays to Cheesus?

I was trying to look for an inspiration for my next  ori-fold and came upon a silly image below.

It includes the spanish word "queso" for cheese and a combo word cheese + jesus.  :-).

So, a mouse it is for my next project!

Cool mouse
Here is the cool mouse model by the japanese origamist Gen Hagiwara.  A challenging and tricky model but  I really enjoyed its unique form and shaping for a standing mouse.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Origami Creations - The Eye-catching Butterfly Fish

I was so enamoured by the Butterfly fish as designed by the japanese origamist Yoshimasa Tsuruta. This fish is named as the most attractive fish in the ocean.  At times it is called the longfin bannerfish or pennant coral fish.

Cool color change and Shaping

A closer look
Isn't it a cool model?  The photo diagram tutorial can be found here.

Enjoy and have a great week.

Origami Creations - How to Tell a Happy Cat

Did you know that one of the cat's happiness reaction is by raising its tail straight up?

Cats has one of the coolest body language tail signals which needs to be understood so in order to have a good and loving relationship with them.

Here are cat ori-models showing expressive cat tails :-).

Origami Creations - Challenging Origami Bird Folds

I always encounter difficulty when folding intermediate model of origami birds due to its tedious pleating of the wings and tail as well as forming the claws.  These parts require accuracy to get the perfect appearance.  Other than this, you must have bigger and good paper.

Here are my latest bird folds plainly using Kami.

Mockingbird don't fly away
The first one is the Mockingbird by the famous Roman Diaz.  It needs some shaping to achieve an even better result.  Diagram for this model can be found in his book Origami Essence.

White Eye Birdie
The second one is the challenging Japanese White-Eyed bird by the great Satoshi Kamiya.  This one is a cool model with its bottom closed.

My bird folding needs more practice and I really need to consider getting good paper for better results.

Well, that is something I can look forward to!

Origami Creations - The Killer Stingray

Most of you would have known about the unfortunate death of the Australian environmentalist, wildlife expert and TV star Steve Irwin from a stingray attack.

Below is a review of the event and helpful tips if you will encounter one.

In search for a cool stingray fold, I found the manta ray model by the famous Quentin Trollip.  It's a simple design but quite impressed with the choice of its base to make the model.

Beautiful Glider of the Seas
Hope you are having a great week!

Origami Creations - Remembering the Madagascar Lemur King

King Julien is a really silly and funny character.  He is the Lemur King in the movie Madagascar.

I tried searching for a lemur origami model and found one by the great Roman Diaz.  It's quite a challenging fold as the paper really got quite thick in folding its tail.

Cute with a superb long tail

Aside from the King, I enjoyed the movie's theme song too - "I like to move it, move it"!  It never fails to give me a happy vibe everytime!

Here it is ... enjoy!

Origami Creations - Ride Like the Wind

I am a big fan for this song "Ride Like the Wind" by Christoper Cross and it was use in a video to Save the Wild Horses of America.   (My oh my, the song intro is just so good!).

Got me a wild horse here roaming free.  This design is by the famous origamist Gen Hagiwara.

Run pretty horse run
It has a real softness feel in its appearance and has a very eye-catching appeal

Having a great good week ... hope yours is too!

Origami Creations - Lovely Aquatic Birds

One of the origami models that caught my attention this past week was the aquatic Water Bird Duck by my good friend Barth Dunkan aka Ecorigami MagicFingaz.

Pretty and Poised
I have been trying to design a duck and was never successful in coming up with something unique and appealing.  Kudos to my good friend.

And Barth is quite generous to share the diagram for this model.  Check it out here.

Happy folding!

Origami Design - A Mother's Day Special

For all the mother's in the world both here with us and forever living in our hearts ... Happy Mother's Day.

From a mother's quote "You are precious in every way, the sunshine in my day.  The joy in my soul and the love of my life."  Indeed, the bond between mother and child is one defined by LOVE.

Here is my way of interpreting a mother's love with my Monkey Mom and Baby design folded by my talented and humble friend Thomas Krapf (click to check his flickr account).

Baby in Mom's loving embrace

It's and adorable interpretation with an expertly delicate touch using special origami paper.

Below is my fold during the design stage.

Peek-a-Boo
So for all the sons and daughters out there, make sure to greet your Mom and spend some good quality time for Mother's Day (and on other days when you have the chance and opportunity to be able to).

Have a great Mother's Day weekend!

Origami Creations - Nature's Best Animal Dad

Watching "Awesome Animal Dads" is very reassuring ... being a Daddy myself.

How some Dad's really go to great lengths to nurture his babies.

Watch this:

And yes, to top it all, the seahorse carries the babies to full term (yup, getting pregnant) and delivering them.

Daddy Extraordinaire
I have folded me a pregnant Daddy here.  This is a design by the famous japanese origamist Gen Hagiwara.

I'm still in awe for the seahorse ... thinking how human mommy's would be so very happy if they can share the pregnancy with their hubbies :-).

Ouch ... this I don't think I can muster to do.

Origami Creations - The Secret of the Dark Side of the Moon

I was watching the video titled "The secret of the Dark Side of the Moon".  Quite an interesting documentary and explains very well why the back side of the moon is thicker and contains so many asteroid scars.

Here is the video for your learning pleasure and amazement.

After watching this, I was inspired to fold the funny moon designed by Eric Kenneway.

Whimsical
It's quite a smartly designed model and I really enjoyed folding it.

More importantly, the dark side of the moon secret is now unveiled.

Enjoy your week!

Origami Creations - Attack of the Cute Doggies

Nothing compares to the origami designs of the master Roman Diaz.  They appear simple looking but they are actually very intellectually structured and so lovable.

Here below is one of them.

Here doggie doggie <3
The first time I saw this model, I tried to re-engineer it.  I ended up unsuccessful.  Finally when the diagram was out, it blew me away as it turn out to be a complicated one.

I couldn't remember now how many of these dogs I have folded ... but what I do surely remember is the big smiles of the little kids I gave them to.

Have a wonderful and productive week!
