Origami Creations - Simple and Awesome Skull Origami

I know that Halloween is still a long way from now but I just could not resist to fold this design by the japanese origamist Katsuhisa Yamada.

Perfect symmetry

It is a simple design but all the salient features are taken into pinpoint accuracy consideration.  To better understand what I mean, try making it with the tutorial below.

Origami Creations - Cool Gangster Fold

For a change, I decided to do a human fold.  

After checking around the web, I came upon "Corto Maltese" by Kaze.  I couldn't quite get the hair for this model so I decided to convert it into a beret hat and make him more gangsta cool.

Here is my variation of the model.

He's so hot ... hot dxxxb

Origami Creations - Simple Ant

I have long been postponing to fold lovely origami models from a rectangular paper.  The reason is because I am so attached to the old rule in origami of using a square sheet of paper, no cuts and no gluing.  I am also quite lazy to pick up some scissors and do extra measurements.

Well, lo and behold, I finally succumbed to Rui Roda's simple ant model.

Aside from its cuteness, the delightful and clear diagrams made me decide to make it.  He has freely shared them and is available here.  You may also try to check out Rui's flickr account and be inspired by his skill and talent.

Origami Creations - Kusudama Taj Mahal

I came upon an impressive kusudama called the Taj Mahal by Valentina Minayeva.  At first glance it looks like a soccer ball but when you look closely, you can see its beautiful criss-cross starry design.

Here is my fold.

It uses 30 units but really worth the folding!  On the assembly, my tip is to tape every 5 units joined on the inside of the ball to hold the form.  For the last 3 units, use utmost patience to complete it.   The diagram link is here.  And the youtube video is linked below.

Origami Creations - Modular Cubes

I have been so enamored with modular cubes lately ... the ones with the lesser number of units.  I have seen 1, 2, 3 and 4 but the ones with a variety of designs are the 6 unit cubes.  The 12 unit designs is even more awesome but I wouldn't want to fold so much paper for a cube, unless it is really temptingly beautiful.

Here is what I have done so far using 7.5 cm square kami paper.  It saves me a lot of paper to produce cuteness.

Origami Creations - Japanese Tree Frog

In search of a challenging fold, I chance upon the Tree Frog by the great Satoshi Kamiya.  I had the opportunity to make a lot of his designs and so happy with the outcome on the Little Bird and the Lion.

This one is surely another cool project!

Shaping is tough but a rewarding fold

Really enjoyed this fold a lot but I would love to do it again with better paper for perfect shaping of the fingers and toes.

Surely want to try this soon!

Origami Creations - King of the Jungle

A great feeling of accomplishment when I finally was able to fold another awesome model by the great japanese origamist - Satoshi Kamiya.  After making his octopus, elephant and then his little bird, I couldn't resist myself to continue and try more of his works. 

Here is my rendition of his Lion model.

The shaping of the mane may need further improvement but overall I am quite satisfied with the raw result of my fold.

Origami Creations - Cool Box Pleating Designs

I was so enamored by a box pleating origami model by a master origamist in the name of Tomohiro Tachi.  Check out his flickr account here.

I don't usually fold using this technique which is normally applied to make complex human form designs, but this one is a great exception.

This model is from an uncut square sheet of paper and you may find the tutorial here by another origamist, Mr. Peter Stein.

Mr. Stein also made a variation called "Cheers" (red wine and wine glass) but this time from a rectangular paper.

Origami Creations - Folding Nemo the Clownfish (小丑魚)

Just re-watched "Finding Nemo" the other day which led me to dig out my origami box for the clown fishes which I have folded long before.

I am a big fan of origami models with color changes and one of this challenge can be encountered with the clown fish.

First catch is Roman Diaz's clownfish.

Lovely

Next catch is Katrin Shumakov's (Oriland) design.

I remember making one by a famous Korean origamist Seo Won Seon (redpaper) but couldn't find it now.  Guess that is the one that got away :-(.

Origami Design and Creations - My Muttley Dog Earrings

Due to insistent public (my daughters) demand, I was requested to make "Muttley dog" earrings.  This is actually the origami design I made and blogged here.  

I haven't made earrings before but seems quite an interesting challenge.

After a weeks of viewing "how-to" youtube tutorials, I set-off to buy me my tools and materials.

And here is my finished product ...

Cute, huh?

So very glad that the public liked it.  They said its fun, unique and adorable.

Well, they should like it as it is limited edition and made specially by their loving and cool Dad.
