Finally got the chance to complete my video tutorial for the simple origami horse as mentioned in my blogpost here.

Origami Designs / Creations - Simple 3D Horse Head

Quite impressed with the models submitted in the simple origami contest for the Lunar New Year 2014.

As I seem to have the momentum for creating more origami designs, I was able to come up with another one.  

This is plainly a horse head model and below is what I have submitted.

This model takes only 12 folds to make but requires a lot of pinch markings due to its 3D boxy form.  Very simple piece yet it gives a playful feeling which I believe exudes the real essence of making origami!  Fun, fun, fun!

Origami Designs / Creations for the Lunar New Year of the Horse (馬年)

Even before the year 2013 was to end, a new origami competition has been announced for the celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Horse.

Fully recharged and ready for challenges, I set-out to fold my simple horse.  

I usually start from the simple origami bases and work towards coming up with the required body parts - very amateurish.  Then, I do the shaping.  Term commonly used for this creative style is doodling.  It is really a hit or miss thing but the outcome is very rewarding and self-fulfilling.

Here is my simple origami horse.

Gallant Horse - 2 views

I called this my "Gallant Horse" due to its upright posture (chest out and stomach in).  It is headstrong, fearless and ready to face the year 2014!  Not to forget to mention my awesome background "fu" (福) character.   This is the new year's blessing for Prosperity, Success, Wealth, Good Health and Happiness!

Origami Design - Baby Wolly Mammoth Elephant (長毛象寶寶)

I have written about elephants being commonly used as an origami model due to their distinctive looks - trunks, flappy ears and their big size.  Out of the blue, I have decided to make one for myself.

Here is what I have made:

I call this the Baby Wolly Mammoth (elephant).  I made it stand on its front legs to add a bit of movement.  This animal can be seen in the famous animation movie "Ice Age" and her character name is Peaches.  Below is the image of Peaches with friends.

Do  you see any resemblance?  Hope so ...

Once I get to have the time, I'll prepare origami diagrams and video tutorials to share it with the world!

Origami Creations - Long Eared Bat Tutorial and Diagrams

Enjoyed myself doing the videos and diagramming of my very own simple origami designs.  So for Halloween 2013, I have blogged about the Long Eared Bat which I have created and brought to life ... so to speak.

Comments I received from family and friends is they find the model quite cute and fun to make.  Making the face was a bit tough though but well worth it once its done.

Origami Creations - Simple Fall Squirrels Tutorial

Finally completed my origami diagram and video tutorial for the Fall Squirrel.   It was a good learning experience as I am able to learn new tricks - Inkscape diagramming and Video creation and editing.

Origami Creations - Love for Birds

My first origami was the flapping bird and since then my love for folding birds always stayed with me.  In fact, the traditional origami crane (鶴 tsuru), a bird, was made an icon to represent this art form.

Here I made a special origami crane.  Its 4 birds connected on their beaks.

Origami Creations - Autumn Flower Tutorial

In my last post on the 15th of October - Tuesday, I mentioned that I have joined a competition for Simple Origami.  Competition winners were announced and unfortunately, my entry didn't make it.

In fairness, the top 5 origami art pieces that won, were well deserving.  The experience and opportunity to join a fun competition was more than a gift that will last me a lifetime.  I am looking forward to the next contest.  Bring it on!

And talking about gifts, I made a video tutorial of my autumn flowers for all to enjoy.  Hope you like them.

Simple and Easy Origami Flower / Photo Frame

You can put them on your table tops or on your plants at home.  Guaranteed to make  a gloomy day a happy and brighter one.

Place them on your plants - but make sure not to water them :-).

Origami Creations - Halloween

Since the origami competition which I have joined a few weeks ago, I started to challenge myself and create another one.

Hmmm ... now what could be a good piece to work on ...  Got it!

Halloween is so big in Hong Kong (and elsewhere) right now so I decided to give it a shot.

Folding from the simple Kite base and twisting it to form a head and wings, "Lo and behold" I came upon something like ...

My Long Eared Bat - with droopy eyes and sharp finger tips :-)

Origami Designs and Creations

Joined a Simple Origami competition and submitted two entries.  I have been exposed to this art form when in grade school by a classmate - starting from the traditional flapping bird.

Took the hobby back again when in Hong Kong and never looked back ...
