Origami Creations - Christmas Leftovers

I just realized that I had so much Christmas folds in my work basket.  Even though Christmas was two (2) months ago, I thought I should post my creations and share with the origami world.

Pureland Reindeer

My reindeer is from an old japanese book but I couldn't remember the creator.  It is a simple piece yet and enjoyable item to behold.

Cool Santa with Sack

This Santa Claus with Sack is by the japanese master Hideo Komatsu.  Undoubtedly an origami masterpiece as I very much enjoy its geometric shaping and rough and sharp edges.  Other than that, its folding sequence is surprising and magical.

Another cool and easy Santa model caught my eye as I was viewing the youtube account of Mr. Katsuhisa Yamada.  It his Santa Star from an uncut square sheet of paper.

Origami Creations - More Simple Santa Origami

I have another lovely Santa fold and this time by another favourite japanese origamist, Mr. Katsuhisa Yamada.

Origami Creations - Simple Santa and Christmas Tree

The spirit of Christmas is still with me and the family so I have done a lot of Santa folds aside from my own creations.

Here is one of my favourite Santa designed by the famous japanese  origamist/master Kunihiko Kasahara.

And not to be outdone, I have paired it with my simple christmas tree from my "Christmas is a time for love - 3 in 1 model" design which I have blogged here.

I am very proud of this unique design as it is one of a kind - to have 3 different objects for one uncut sheet of paper.  The diagram is now available in my newly opened Etsy shop.

There are so many origami stars to choose from for Christmas but there is one outstanding modular star which I enjoy the most.  It's Gary's star by Sok Song.

So fortunate to receive a photodiagram of a simple snowflake modular by Hans-Werner Guth in FB.   He is a cool origamist who makes a lot of geometric models.

Origami Design - Christmas is the time for LOVE 3 in 1 Model

I joined the Mini-Reto Hearts origami challenge again and came up with a cool design.  It's a "3 models in 1" from one uncut square sheet of paper.

Here it is:

Front View - "Sumo"Santa Claus

A big bodied Papa Noel ... I likened to the sumo wrestlers of Japan but super cooler :-).

Back View - Christmas Tree

A cute mini christmas tree for the back side.

Inside - a Huge Heart

An enormous movable heart ... a big surprise!

Origami Creations - Christmas Stars and Snowflakes

In the spirit of Christmas I looked around for a star and snowflake origami design to use as ornaments.  One design attracted my attention, the Fractal by the famous origamist Roman Diaz.  Do check his creations from his flickr account here.

Awesome repetitive folding

It is not that difficult but you need a large and strong paper to be able to make a nice result.  Luckily, there is a tutorial video in the web which I can share with you.

Origami Creations - Father Christmas

Among the Santa Claus models which I have folded, my most favorite is the Father Christmas by Steve and Megumi Biddle which you can find in his book "Essential Origami".

So adorable

Cool huh?  

I made a small variation with Santa's shoes here ... to make its color match his gloves and cap.

Origami Creations - Easy Modular Christmas Tree

I am quite impressed with the multitudes of origami Christmas Trees designed this year so I thought of trying my luck with creating one.

After much folding and creasing ... I end up with re-using a Traditional fold - the Iris flower.  You can find the diagram here.

Christmas is the time for Love and Great sights - Hong Kong 2013 (香港)

Christmas is a big celebration in Hong Kong and you will surely be spoiled and surprised by the many activities and extravagant decorations around town.

Around my area in Causeway bay, I was delighted to see a huge christmas tree in the shape of a fashion designers' dummy.

Also, I was able to see a really REAL ballgown.

And, not to be bettered, a lovely flowery party dress.

Looks and smells good too!

I was also fortunate enough to have a visitor from the US and had to picked them up at the Check Lap Kok Airport.  There I saw the Bling Christmas tree.

Origami Creations / Designs - Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus (聖誕老人)

Thought of a fun and challenging opportunity for me to test my creativity ... 

It is to make an origami christmas santa as seen in one of the FB groups which I have participated in.  I was really so surprised with the many wonderful creations so I thought I should give it a try.

Now ... I need to look for a "red and white" colored paper.  Just realized that I have used up all of those colors for kawasaki roses, so I ended up recycling one of my kusudama/modulars.

This is whats left of my Icosahedron ball.

Days and weeks passed and I am unable to fold anything except for Santa's face and could not complete the model.  Finally, I was able to come up with not only one but two ...

 

Yes, a Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.  It's sort of a stick figure and luckily pass the "cuteness test" by my tough model inspectors - my daughters.  It does remind me of the models made by another talented origamist - Riki Saito.

Hope you'll like this creation and will try to make the diagrams and tutorials very soon for all to enjoy.

Origami Creations - Merry Christ-METTE to All!

I have seen so many nice origami Christmas tree pictures and diagrams in the web.  Most of them are modular origami designs.  

I plan to create one for my family but seem like time is not on my side.  So, I decided to improvise and use my lovely and colorful Mette rings.

Now, this is our Christmas Tree.

Mette rings are a joy to make.  It is designed by Mette Pederson and the one I made is the so called 3 dimensional mette rings.  These are easy to make and fun to play with colors.  You will need 12 pieces to form the ring.

I have searched for a tutorial in the web but found nothing so I created one here.
