Origami Creations - Challenging Origami Bird Folds

I always encounter difficulty when folding intermediate model of origami birds due to its tedious pleating of the wings and tail as well as forming the claws.  These parts require accuracy to get the perfect appearance.  Other than this, you must have bigger and good paper.

Here are my latest bird folds plainly using Kami.

Mockingbird don't fly away
The first one is the Mockingbird by the famous Roman Diaz.  It needs some shaping to achieve an even better result.  Diagram for this model can be found in his book Origami Essence.

White Eye Birdie
The second one is the challenging Japanese White-Eyed bird by the great Satoshi Kamiya.  This one is a cool model with its bottom closed.

My bird folding needs more practice and I really need to consider getting good paper for better results.

Well, that is something I can look forward to!

Origami Creations - Remembering the Madagascar Lemur King

King Julien is a really silly and funny character.  He is the Lemur King in the movie Madagascar.

I tried searching for a lemur origami model and found one by the great Roman Diaz.  It's quite a challenging fold as the paper really got quite thick in folding its tail.

Cute with a superb long tail

Aside from the King, I enjoyed the movie's theme song too - "I like to move it, move it"!  It never fails to give me a happy vibe everytime!

Here it is ... enjoy!

Origami Creations - Impressive Two Tone Cows

Another favourite of mine ... color change origami models.

Here are two (2) models of cows which uses the awesome technique of color change in origami.

Color and Body shaping at its Best
This first one is a complex model by the origami master Roman Diaz and the diagram can be found in his book Origami Essence.  It's structure and appearance is so accurate as you can see in the photo.  Other than that, I did struggle in my shaping as I nearly destroyed my kami paper :-).

Cute and Playful
Next one is by the japanese origamist Gen Hagiwara.  A more simpler model and allows one to experiment with the color change on the body.  The diagram fro this model is in his book Spirits of Origami.

Hope you all have a great week!

Origami Creations - The Wonderful Story of Wolf Changing Rivers

I was inspired by the video titled "Wolf Changes Rivers".  A story of how the Yellowstone Park was devastated when the ecological balance was disrupted by the elimination of wolves.

Here is the eye-opening story of their reintroduction and how it gave life and eco-balance in the Park.

Now, here is my way of giving life to this wonderful creature.

First one is the simple fox design by Hungarian origamist Jozsef Zsebe (flickr account.)

Simple curves and color change effect
Next is the "Howling Coyote" by the famous origamist Roman Diaz (flickr account.)

Expressive model
Finally, here is the smooth and flowing fox design by the japanese origamist Hideo Komatsu (website account).

Cool and Sleek
I personally have learned a lot from this Yellowstone Park story and how we need to co-exist with all the living things around us.

Life is so much more worth living when we find great meaning and understanding of our existence.

Origami Creations - Amazing Goat Design

I just found out about this goat design by the famous origamist Roman Diaz.  No one abandons a Roman Diaz creation so I went about making it immediately.

Excellent realistic shaping
I use baking paper to fold this design to avoid the thickening layers for some areas.  The result was quite impressive!

Awesome in B&W
I took another picture using Black and White ... so happy with its effect!  Would surely try to fold this with better paper next time.

For anybody interested to try folding this, you can download the diagram here.

Have a great weekend guys!

Origami Creations - Christmas Stars and Snowflakes

In the spirit of Christmas I looked around for a star and snowflake origami design to use as ornaments.  One design attracted my attention, the Fractal by the famous origamist Roman Diaz.  Do check his creations from his flickr account here.

Awesome repetitive folding
It is not that difficult but you need a large and strong paper to be able to make a nice result.  Luckily, there is a tutorial video in the web which I can share with you.

Good luck and hope you enjoy making this awesome piece.

Origami Creations - All about Dogs Part 4

I've been quite impressed with Roman Diaz origami creations.  So I was quite lucky enough to find two of his dog models to present here.

Cute playful Puppy

Fox Terrier
His designs and folding sequence is such a joyful experience.  The resulting look is quite impressive!

Also, I chance upon another awesome origamist by the name of Nicolas Gajardo Enriquez.  His Collie model was an obsession to fold and was luckily enough to secure a CP.  It took me a week and a kind-hearted help from an origamist friend from Vietnam (Billy Tu) to finally complete it.

Really Cool!
Now for the group photo!

Have a great week!
