Origami Fold - Kitten by Jason Ku

Smitten by a lovely simple model by a young American origami master Mr. Jason Ku.  He is currently a board officer and member of Origami USA and has created a lot of wonderful works which you can find in his website here.

Adored his "Kitten" model for its simplicity and playful stance.

Cuteness overload

What do you think?  Impressive, huh!

Enjoy your weekend!

Origami Fold - Awesome Blue Shark by John Montroll

Finally got the opportunity to fold a John Montroll model ... the much loved and talked about Blue Shark from his book Origami Sea Life.

John is a famous American master origami artist and a prolific author.  Check out his wiki here to learn more about this great guy and savor the list of origami books he has published!

Here are my folds of the Blue Shark.

In the dark murky waters

Feeding frenzy time
Really a great model to fold and a challenge to shape.  Will surely try this again with a better paper next time.

Have a great week!

Origami Publication - My Very First

So blessed to have one of my designs to be selected and published by Origami USA.  This is my personal favorite - Happy Baby Whale which I have blogged here.

It is for May to June 2014 under Issue No. 22 on the OUSA online magazine "The Fold".

Too excited so I have pasted a screenshot below.

Indeed another simple pleasure moment ... it is my hope to be able to share my designs/creations extensively for all to enjoy.  Origami art to me, since the very beginning, is something readily and easily available and must be shared to achieve pure enjoyment/fulfillment.

Origami Creations - All about Dogs Part 4

I've been quite impressed with Roman Diaz origami creations.  So I was quite lucky enough to find two of his dog models to present here.

Cute playful Puppy

Fox Terrier
His designs and folding sequence is such a joyful experience.  The resulting look is quite impressive!

Also, I chance upon another awesome origamist by the name of Nicolas Gajardo Enriquez.  His Collie model was an obsession to fold and was luckily enough to secure a CP.  It took me a week and a kind-hearted help from an origamist friend from Vietnam (Billy Tu) to finally complete it.

Really Cool!
Now for the group photo!

Have a great week!

Origami Creations - Love of Nature and Animals

My daughters grew up watching Walt Disney movies.  They were really a great source of "attention grabbing tool" to give me some relax time.  :o)

One of their remarkable and emotional film was titled "Bambi".  Yes, it's not their favorite but quite memorable as it depicted death and destruction.  An old movie yet carries a relevant/current message.

Immediately after seeing the deer model of Fabiana Sanapanya, got me inspired to fold one and grab hold of my daughters' disney toys - Doc dwarf from Snow White and the Seven dwarfs.

Such a lovely pair, huh?

Fabiana's deer model is impressive especially with its perfect size and shaping from head to toe.  While Doc is my daughters favorite, quite a smart and witty lad!

Have a great weekend and do continue to wish upon a star and make your dreams come true!

Origami Creations - All about Dogs Part 3

Momentum of creating these dogs is building up ... never been so excited ever before with my folding until now.

This next batch of tail-waggers is the cool looking ones.  See for yourself.

Golden Retriever by Satoshi Kamiya

Seated Dog by Ares Alanya
Yorkshire Terrier by Seiji Nishikawa
The greatest challenge was the cutest among them all ... the Yorkshire Terrier.  The facial details with the furry curls is just a difficult task.  Took a lot of photos too until I was satisfied with this posted one.

Hope you like them!

Origami Creations - Selfie Mask Folding Challenge

I am great fan of the famous american origamist named Jeremy Shafer eversince I saw him compete in an origami TV show in Japan.

Aside from creating unique and interesting models, he has a great and charming personality which exudes so  much energy and great fun!  You may check out and subscribe in his youtube account here.

Lately I saw one of his tutorial of Akira Yoshizawa selfie mask.  Quite an interesting topic so I decided to make me one too.

The serious one

The Funny One

It's far from looking the legend himself but quite a delightful piece indeed.  I still need to work on my sculpting technique and great attention to facial details.

If you may be interested to make one, check out the video below:

Good luck!

Origami Creations - All about Dogs Part 2

Here are the next batch of dogs which I have enjoyed folding the past week.  One thing consistently beautiful with them is the creative color changes used by the respective japanese origamist.

Papillon (Buttefly) Dog by Hideo Komatsu

Beagle by Fumiaki Kawahata
Shiba Dog by Satoshi Kamiya with my Puppy
I encountered some difficulty again due to the size of paper used as this models require shaping to make them look great (especially the face and body section).  Overall, I am quite happy with the result.

Got me a group photo of the first and second batch here.

Cool first batch of tail-waggers

Enjoy and wish you all a great week ahead!

Origami Creations - Beautiful Mermaid

Digging up my stash of origami works, I found a lovely piece which gave me a wonderful smile!

First time I made this model, I was so very impressed by its shaping and cute details i.e. the mermaids flowing hair, the body shaping, the dainty arms, the tail fin or fluke etc...

See for yourself here.

My golden mermaid

I decided to make a short video below so you can fully appreciate the beauty of this piece.

Unfortunately,  I cannot remember the japanese origamist who created this design.  It is from a book I borrowed from the library a long time back.  Let me try to do some research and hopefully find it again.

Enjoy and have a great day!

Origami Design/Creations - Cat on a Mouse

I love a challenge and decided to make me some cats.  Initially, I decided to make a "Cat on a Mouse" on one square sheet of paper.

Here is the cool result:

First rough draft

Second rough draft
I did find the model cute but only to my taste/liking.  So I decided to make a single subject fold instead and here it is.

Simple Furry Face Cat Bust

Simple Furry Face Cat
Not really an outstanding model but exudes cuteness and quirkiness which I enjoy.  The cartoony face and unconventional form makes me happy!

Have a nice day!

Origami Creations - All about Dogs Part 1

I have been inspired to fold all the origami dog models that I can get hold of.  This started with the creation of my simple Muttley Dog (here).  Quite impressed with the many different species and the creative work by mostly famous origamist.

Here's the first batch...

Poodle and Doberman

Both cool models especially with the color change on the Doberman.  Quite not so impressed with my folds though as I was using small kami paper.  I plan to redo this again next time with bigger paper.

Below are individual photos of these models.

Have a nice day!
